At PEC, we believe the gift of sight is one of the most precious gift from God so taking care of them is our business. Having a comprehensive eye exam helps us catch any underlying or developing eye condition. Early intervention is key in eye health.

It is very important to check yearly to see clearly especially if you already have an underlying eye condition. Otherwise every two years is recommended.

Like adults, children need regular eye exams because Children can be prone to developmental anomalies with their sight resulting in poor vision. Poor vision can affect a child academically, socially, and emotionally. A child who cannot see and play the same games as their peers can be bullied and rejected by their peers. Children like to be accepted.

Early detection and intervention is key in ensuring children enjoy good and quality vision which in-turn can impact on their quality of life.

  1. Ensure you take your child for regular eye examinations. This will help catch any visual anomalies at an early stage where intervention would yield maximum results.
  2. Do not trivialize your child’s or teachers complain about their sight.
  3. If your child needs glasses, allow and encourage them to wear them. Do not laugh at them or call them funny names.
  4. Keep good hygiene and encourage your child to do the same
  5. Do not purchase roadside drugs or eye drops without prescription. Chloramphenicol is not the cure for all eye problem
  6. Do not put toothpaste, concoctions, herbs or any substance into your child’s eyes. The damaging effects can be more than the supposed beneficial effects
  7. If you notice an eye-turn in your child’s eye, take them to your optometrist for a comprehensive eye examination
  8. Teach your children to play safely. Avoid throwing sharp and blunt objects at people to prevent eye injuries.
  9. Teach your children not to engage in physical fights and also not to separates fights. They should call an adult instead.
  10. If you notice your child’s pupils appear white, make an emergency visit to the eye clinic. It could be a sign of a life-threatening tumour
  1. Squinting
  2. Tilting head or covering one eye.
  3. Sitting too close to the television or holding hand-held devices too close to the eyes.
  4. Rubbing eyes excessively.
  5. Complaining of headaches or eye pain.
  6. Difficulty concentrating on school work.

As part of our contribution to the attainment of VISION 20/20 right to sight to all, we offer a free eye to our community monthly every first Fridays of the month
